Parking Near Campus and in Providence
Street parking on and near campus is tight; after 9 a.m., it can be difficult to find a spot. Most blocks located conveniently near campus are metered, and overtime meter tickets can be $25 or more. Some apartments and houses include parking spaces, but not always. If parking is not available with a rental, it can be possible to rent a parking space nearby, with typical rent prices for a parking space in the area ranging between $50 and $150 per month.
Review the City of Providence resident permit parking district maps to find out where you are eligible to park in the city.
A Providence city ordinance prohibits parking on the street between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. in many areas of the city. Overnight parking permits may also be purchased from Brown (Brown overnight parking is only available to graduate students who either live on campus or in Brown-owned housing) or the City of Providence.
Because of the scarcity of parking spaces around Brown, all members of the Brown community are encouraged to find alternate means of commuting to and from campus. More information on parking, carpooling, biking, and taking the shuttle to campus can be found on Brown's Transportation and Parking Services page.
